Still Standing’s sole purpose is to celebrate and empower survivors of sexual assault (you). Our Accomplishments Twist is designed to utilize what you already know – your story – to see your power. We encourage you to share as little or as much of your story as you are comfortable with, and then add a ‘but’ at the end of the story. Following that ‘but’ is the Accomplishments Twist. We encourage you to share achievements “big” and “small” (such as getting up out of bed every morning, lying in bed and breathing, finding new love, taking a shower, going shopping, learning to trust again, finishing college, seeking treatment, reporting, going through the criminal justice process, starting a family, beginning to love life, brushing your teeth/hair, etc. are all examples).
In completing the Accomplishments Twist we hope you again see (or maybe even see for the first time) just how powerful, brave, and courageous you truly are every moment of every day. Additionally, we know that sharing our stories helps thwart the stigma, blame, shame, and guilt society has built around being a sexual assault survivor and empowers other sexual assault survivors to stand and do the same. However, we certainly recognize that not everyone can or wishes to share their story. We honor those survivors, and we hope by reading these stories they see their power too!
Sharing your story can happen a few ways:
Please do keep in mind that each of our stories, unless otherwise expressed, are published on our website, Facebook page, and shared on our Twitter and Instagram pages as well. If you submit your story anonymously your name will *NOT* be mentioned. Instead we will give your story a title utilizing a few words or a quote.
Sharing your story can be hard. Please take as much time as you need. Leave this page open and come back or type your story somewhere else and simply copy and paste it at the bottom of this page. If you’d like, you are more than welcome to email us your story or any other questions, comments, ideas, etc. to email@example.com.
Thank you for your bravery, courage, perseverance, and survivorship. It is an honor to be allowed to share your story!
